Everyone always talks about how crazy plastic surgery it is in Korea. Its one thing to hear stories and one thing to actually see the culture first hand and learn more about where they are coming from.
When we went to Lotte World (an amusement park) we noticed that the children there looked significantly different from those that were older than 20+ They were ALL monolid and had different facial structure from the ones that were 20-30 years old! The 20-30 year olds look beautiful LIKE KPOP STARS. MEN AND WOMEN. But they all went through plastic surgery. It is the norm there for parents to save money for there children to get it.
Here is a lady I saw who just got her nose done and was out shopping. She had a metal nose bridge. Another lady had her face wrapped more extremely.
Our tour guide was telling us about the mentality they have. They think that having a “better face” can help you get a job, can give you more opportunities and a better future.
In high school, teachers will take girls aside and ask: "why don’t you put makeup on? It is disrespectful to yourself, the school and society. If you cant even wake up earlier and spend 20 minutes on your face, how are you going to ever be prepared when you get a job".
Makeup stories are everywhere which reflects this type of mentality! That I quite enjoyed hehe
